Go Texas Longhorns!

This is the start of a great season today. The Texas Longhorns play their first game and we are so excited! Leslie and Nolan have been primed to saying "hook em horns!" that I have to remind Leslie when she cheers for the Clifton Cubs to say "go Cubs" not Horns! It is funny. She is so confused, but hey she is on the right track. I have two little Longhorns in training. Here is a great picture of the Horns and some of the kids I took last year at opening season. It was before my blogging time.

Remember...."The Eyes of Texas are Upon You!"

Texas Texas Yee Haw!

"This is how to do Hook 'Em Horns, Lessie"
Yes, we got it now! Hook 'Em Horns!

Everybody do the Clifton Rumble!

Wooohooo. I am pumped for this football season! My adrenaline is pumping. It looks like Clifton is going to have a great season. We saw so many new things at the game last night. You know how I spoke of the town spirit, well it is even stronger. People sell Cub green T-shirts for fundraisers and do very well at them. My dad and Les made the big mistake of not wearing green and let me tell ya, they were reamed and bombarded to purchase a Cub shirt. The school or booster club purchased a new inflatable for the football guys to run under. You know how they used to run through the big posters the cheerleaders made, not any more! Now they run through a huge inflatable tent thing. We also saw new uniforms on the players and a huge flag that says Clifton cubs that runs across the field at every touchdown. It was awesome! Leslie did great at her cheering! She was so excited to see her friend Madison and all of the other tiny cheerleaders. I bet there was at least 30 of the little "wanna be's" out on the field. It was so cute! I have learned that this is what the girls do when they are young here in Clifton. It is like the big girls are training the young ones for "their" time. Like I said before, this is a football town through and through.
Can you find Leslie in the sea of green?
Leslie waved at she walked out onto the field.
She tries to act like and look like the "big girls".
Can't you just see this picture on their dressers when they are Senior Cheerleaders?
Go Leslie!!!

Rush, Rush, Rush

I decided to go to Waco today while Leslie was at preschool. I had to do more grocery shopping, which that seems to never end. No matter how I plan the meals for the week I still have to go back and drop another 100 dollar bill or more! Anyway, I was looking for white tennis shoes for Leslie to wear tonight at her first football game to cheer. Yep, she is a junior Clifton Cheerleader and I have to have her look the same as the other girls. You know that is the dumb thing cheerleaders do besides wearing the biggest bow on the top of their heads. All we have are little shoes with pink on them and I knew that they would stick out like a sore thumb. So off I went busting my butt trying to get back in time to pick up Leslie at 12:00. Man, I wish I would have just waited on her to get out because it was not fun or relaxing. Time is already speeding by while the kids at school. They love going by the way. Nolan is reading so well and we are so very proud of his hard work and Leslie.........well............let's just say that she is still learning that her teacher is the BOSS! JK She really is doing okay as well. I can't wait until tonight. Clifton is such a football town. When I left this morning, there were students placing big green flags all up and down the highway. Oh and if you by chance come through the big town of Clifton on a Friday, you better be wearing green! You will show you are not from here if you are not sporting Cub gear! I love love love love it!!! Clifton should be on the show Friday Night Lights (about the Texas football team). Anyhoo, gotta rush and get Leslie. Be looking for pics tomorrow.

1st Day of School

The alarm sounded its annoying beeping as I rubbed my tired eyes. There was an excited feeling yet nervous feeling in the pit of my stomach. As I rolled out of bed and proceeded to get dressed and ready, the nervous feeling accelerated. I was happy that I was going to actually get things done around the house while the kids were gone, but sad at the thought that Spongebob Squarepants was not going to be the constant background noise of the house. I started the breakfast sausage and popped the biscuits in the oven on my way to the dark sleepy part of the house. The kids were snoozing and dreaming of their first day of school. As I tried to wake the kids, they rolled over and went back to dreamland. They had a hard time rolling out of bed and immediately getting dressed, but they did it beautifully. Leslie fussed a little bit, but Nolan wanted to show Leslie the normal morning routine. This was Leslie's first time to actually have to get up and get ready for school. She started Preschool today and will continue to go every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Tuesday and Thursdays might pose a problem, we'll see. The children brushed their teeth and hair and dressed in their new clothes. A twinkle was in each eye as they put on their new clothes and backpacks. It was exciting. We took each of their pictures in front of the house. It was a quiet ride to the school, the nervousness was strong. Then adrenaline kicked in as we rounded the drive to the school and tons of people were everywhere. We walked Nolan to his First Grade classroom and placed his lunch box in his locker. All of his friends were already present so he felt somewhat at home. However you could feel his sadness as I hugged and kissed him bye. I know he will have fun and learn a lot. His teacher seems very nice and calm with a lot of patience. We drove Leslie to school next which was just down the street. She walked in with a ton of confidence. She placed her backpack on the hook told us bye and walked in her classroom. She chose not to hug me good bye and I think that was best, because i think she would have had a hard time letting go. I would too. sniff sniff sniff. So the kids are gone and the house is spotless and I can hear a pin drop. It is nice, but ........... Oh it is already almost time to go get Leslie. She gets out at 12:00. Woohooo. We'll see how tomorrow goes.

A New Favorite

The kids and I are stuck inside most of the day due to rain. I am so thankful for it, but dislike being confined to indoors - especially with kids. So we decided to have the cousins over for a few hours to play. After dropping them off at home, we stopped by the movie store to rent the new movie Nim's Island. We got home, snuggled up in a blanket, snacked on popcorn and watched the movie while it stormed outside. The kids and I really enjoyed it and I definitely recommend renting or better yet buying the movie. We certainly will. The book was actually recommended to us by the school librarian so we will get the book as well. You ought to watch it or at least check out the link!

I'm Not a Baby!

I hear the words, "I'm not a baby!" on a daily basis from Leslie. She thinks and wishes that she was so much bigger and older than she is. I on the other hand want her to stay little as long as possible. I try to explain that she and Nolan will always be my babies, but that just makes her madder. Well today I think she really proved that she was no longer a baby. We were outside goofing around and Nolan hopped on his bike and wanted to race Leslie. I asked if she wanted to try to ride her pink bike that had no training wheels today. She surprisingly replied yes. So we placed the bike in the grass and put her helmet on her head. She threw her little leg around the bike and sat on the seat. This pink bike was her very first bike, so it is little and low to the ground. She must have felt very comfortable because she took off! Yes, really! She put her feet on the pedals and I held the bike steady for a second and she took off with absolutely no problem. The rest of the evening consisted of practicing starting herself and riding on the road. I am just blown away! Leslie is only 3 1/2 (4 in October) and already riding with no training wheels. She has incredible balance and always has. I mean, this child started walking at 9 months and we got her first bike at 2 years old. So I guess it was finally time. Does anyone know how to slow down time? This girl is growing way faster than she should and it scares and saddens me. However, I am super proud of her confidence and pride she carried today riding that bike. Nolan was such an outstanding coach, as well. He kept telling her to keep her balance and what a great job she was doing. I think he is excited to have her ride a bike with him now.

It was really hard to take videos of her becuase I was so afraid she was going to wreck. This is the best I got.

Kids Keep You on Your ToEs

Kids are so incredibly literal! Matt and Mindy were planning a garage sale on Friday and their kids were busy picking out toys to sell to earn money. Well Les and I invited ourselves to their yard sale and started picking out stuff to take to their house. Normally my kids would not let me get rid of ANY of their toys, so I have to do my cleaning out when they are not around. I remember one time I had boxed up the baby toys to take to Goodwill and placed it in the back of the car. Unfortunately I had to slam on my brakes and the box shifted. Then all of a sudden the kids heard a noise or song coming from the back of the car. They both looked at each other and asked "What was that? Ooooh, I know that is the green toy that moves back and forth. What is that doing in the car? Mommy......" Yeah, so now I not only have to clean out without them around, but now I have to take the box of junk to the donation place ALONE! After the kids were watching Matt's kids gather stuff up, they were excited to do the same. So you can imagine the stuff they were pulling out to sell....even some I did not agree with! Anyhoo, we did pretty good at the sale yesterday and I know Matt and Mindy did too with the exception of being sleep deprived. Les took a load of junk to their house on Friday evening and the kids joined him. Two hours later Les returned with money and no kids. WoW that was pretty cool, I thought he might have sold them for $30. JK He had sold a couple of things already and let the kids sleep over at Mindy's house. I questioned it because they had no clothes or toothbrush, but thought oh well I will just take it to them tomorrow. When we arrived bright and early Saturday morning, Matt and Mindy looked like zombies (no offense Mindy) and the kids looked like they had been run over by a Mac truck. My kids kept them up until after midnight. Oooops! You see, Leslie and Nolan cannot fall asleep together because they just feed off of each other's energy. They have to be separated or an adult has to lay down with them. I felt really badly, but all in all things went pretty good. But remember, if you ever have both of my kids over, you have to separate them and/or lay down with them!
